Rockhampton Regional Council today provided an update on the Mayoral vacancy.
CEO Evan Pardon said, "I have now received notification from the Electoral Commission Queensland that Mr Chris Hooper has consented to take on the role of Mayor," he said.
"There is still a process to undertake before that vacancy is filled and Councillor Neil Fisher remains Acting Mayor at the moment."
Acting Mayor Neil Fisher said, "The department of Local Government has reached out and recommended a briefing to Council on their policy intent to retrospectively change the laws and the likely implications those changes could have," he said.
"Council is committed to meeting its obligations under the Local Government Act 2009. Council will provide a further update to the community next week."
