Updated Procurement Policy To Benefit Mitchell Shire Community

Mitchell Shire Council has adopted a new Procurement Policy designed to deliver stronger outcomes for the community.

The updated policy ensures Council's purchasing decisions deliver greater local benefit, support jobs, and keep more investment in the Shire. It also strengthens transparency and accountability in how public funds are managed.

Key improvements

The new policy introduces several changes with immediate benefits for the community:

  • More opportunities for local business - purchases of up to $50,000 can now be made from Mitchell Shire businesses with one written quote.
  • Community benefit front and centre - all procurements over $100,000 must now include a minimum 10% weighting for local economic contribution.
  • Simpler processes - thresholds for quotes and tenders have been updated to save time and reduce red tape, while keeping strong governance in place.
  • Efficient oversight - probity advisor requirements now apply from $3 million, focusing resources where they are most needed.

Supporting local outcomes

The changes mean more of Council's purchasing will flow back into the local economy, helping to create jobs and strengthen services that benefit the whole community.

The Procurement Policy will be reviewed at least once every Council term to ensure it continues to meet legislative requirements and community expectations.
