Updating Our History

Do have memories or photos of Bayside in the 1900s? Or perhaps you've heard stories from older generations?

Many places, people and events of the past played significant roles in creating the Bayside we love today.

We're calling for community input to help expand our understanding of Bayside's history.

Community insights and memories are needed to fill gaps in our knowledge and help update our strategies around celebrating and respecting the past.

A new forum has been set up on our Have Your Say page where you can share these insights into our past. It will be open-ended so as you recall things or uncover classic photos you can add them to the collection for everyone to appreciate and discuss.

Council has key responsibilities when it comes to celebrating and protecting our history. It is identified in the Heritage Action Plan 2025 that the existing TEH has notable gaps. Addressing these gaps strengthens Council's Heritage identification and implementation.

Help us know more about the key places people and events that shaped the Bayside we enjoy today.

We are particularly keen to receive contributions by 18 January 2026 to help fill some gaps and update our Thematic Environmental History, a key record that supports our heritage strategy.

Some of the themes we are seeking more insight into include:

  • Places in Bayside
  • Life in Bayside
  • People of Bayside
  • Events in Bayside
  • Streets in Bayside
  • Transport in Bayside
  • Sport in Bayside
  • Before it was updated, transformed or removed.

Learn more about this project and share your memories.
