The parking area at Crowdy Head Beach is set to be replaced with a modern car park that will improve safety and accessibility for beachgoers in time for the summer holidays.
Work will begin at the site on Monday 13 October and will see the existing dirt surface transformed into a sealed car park with 109 defined parking spots, including three accessible spaces.
One-way traffic flow, pedestrian crossings and connecting footpaths will also be incorporated into the design to improve safety and ease-of-use for both motorists and pedestrians.
The amenity of the area will also be upgraded through landscaping and the installation of water sensitive stormwater drainage.
MidCoast Council's Director of Infrastructure and Engineering Services, Rob Scott, said it made sense to upgrade the car park given the popularity of the area.
"We know Crowdy Head is a really popular spot for beach users of all types so it's important that the safety and accessibility of the car park is brought up to standard," said Mr Scott.
"The fact that this is scheduled to be completed ahead of the summer holiday period, when the area will be at its busiest, is a real bonus."
The car park will be closed throughout the duration of the project and traffic control will be in place along Crowdy Head Road, with the road reduced to a single lane at times.
The work is due to be completed by mid-December, weather permitting. The project has been made possible thanks to funding from Round 4 of the Australian Government's Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program.
