The next stage of improvement works has commenced at Cobram's Thompsons Beach, designed to create a more family friendly space with improved accessibility and seating.

Works at Kennedy Park began on Monday 28 April and will include construction of accessible footpaths, all-abilities car parking near the toilet facilities, new shade structures, additional park seating, upgraded signage, new public artwork, landscaping and upgraded bollards around the carpark.

This follows the successful installation of a new playground and artworks last year as part of the first stage of the project.

Chair Administrator Dr Graeme Emonson PSM said the project will ensure Thompsons Beach continues to thrive as a much-loved destination for families, locals and tourists for years to come.

"It's great to see investment going into public spaces that bring value to local families, while also making the region more attractive to visitors. These types of improvements can have long-term economic and social benefits for the community," Dr Emonson said.

"This is a fantastic example of how partnerships can deliver lasting benefits. By working alongside Berrigan Shire Council and with support from the Office of the NSW Cross-Border Commissioner, we're creating an improved space that brings people together and encourages tourism in the region."

Moira Shire Council Chief Executive Officer Matthew Morgan said the project would provide a more connected, enjoyable and safer space for both locals and tourists.

"Projects like this demonstrate Council's ongoing commitment to improving public spaces for everyone—whether you're coming down for a walk, a picnic with family, or to enjoy the natural surrounds," he said.

"Planning for this upgrade has carefully considered how people currently access the space to ensure there is no impact to current use, while also looking at how we can make it more accessible and safer for people, and ensure it aligns with the natural beauty of the area.

"The first part of the wider project has already improved the space, and it will be great to see this project continue to develop the space into a family-friendly, accessible and welcoming destination."

The upgrade is being jointly funded by Moira Shire Council, Berrigan Shire Council, and the Cross Border Commissioner's Infrastructure Fund: COVID Recovery Round, administered through the Office of the NSW Cross-Border Commissioner and the Department of Regional NSW.

Sections of the foreshore will be temporarily closed to the public during construction, however Council and contractors will work to minimise inconvenience and maintain access to key areas wherever possible.
