After more than 12 months of upgrades and re-development, the Laverton Swim and Fitness Centre is ready for community use once again.
The centre closed in March 2024 to undergo crucial works to ensure the long-term safety and longevity of the facility.
The redevelopment included important painting work, equipment upgrades, change room modernisation, a revitalised pool deck, new gym setup and a revamped reception and cafe area among other improvements.
The Council-owned building is operated by BlueFit Group, which also operates the BayFit Leisure Centre in Altona North.
Constructed off the back of funds raised by the Laverton community in the 1960s and 70s, the centre is a valued asset for the community, hosting various community groups and learn to swim programs.
Returning groups to the centre include The Rainbow Club, which provides swimming instruction for children with disabilities, and the Mandarin Swim Squad, providing training sessions in both Mandarin and English.
Council acknowledges the significant efforts made by Bluefit Group and other stakeholders in the preparing for the upcoming opening.
The centre officially re-opens for public use on Monday 26 May.
