Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin III spoke with Polish Minister of National Defense Mariusz Błaszczak to discuss Russia's ongoing, unprovoked invasion of Ukraine and how the United States and Poland could effectively provide assistance to the Ukrainian Armed Forces to help them defend their country. Secretary Austin and Minister Błaszczak also reviewed current U.S. force deployments to enhance deterrence along NATO's Eastern Flank, including the recent deployment of U.S. PATRIOT air defense systems to Poland to counter any potential threat to U.S. and Allied forces and NATO territory.
