USAID Chief Power, JICA President Tanaka Hold Meeting

Today, Administrator Samantha Power met with Tanaka Akihiko, President of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). Administrator Power and President Tanaka discussed the strong partnership between USAID and JICA on a range of shared development and humanitarian priorities, as well as the progress made through ongoing trilateral development and humanitarian assistance cooperation with the Republic of Korea. This cooperation has included joint efforts in the Pacific Islands and in Ghana.

Administrator Power and President Tanaka discussed priorities for supporting the people of Ukraine, and Administrator Power thanked Japan for its extensive humanitarian and development contributions to Ukraine following Russia's full-scale invasion. Administrator Power and President Tanaka committed to furthering the close cooperation between USAID and JICA, highlighting addressing the climate crisis, supporting democracies, and expanding digital connectivity as key areas of focus.
