Today, Administrator Samantha Power met with Salvadoran Foreign Minister Alexandra Hill Tinoco. Administrator Power and Foreign Minister Hill discussed USAID's long-standing support for the Salvadoran people and opportunities for progress on a range of key development priorities. Administrator Power and Foreign Minister Hill engaged in a candid discussion of El Salvador's security challenges and U.S. concerns about the protection of civil liberties, including due process rights. They also discussed how USAID's work and partnerships can best support economic prosperity, stability, and individual dignity. Administrator Power and Foreign Minister Hill highlighted the positive impact of USAID's partnership with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to help connect Salvadorans seeking work with lawful labor pathways in a manner that protects their rights, and the importance of identifying ways to strengthen and expand these efforts.
