USAID's Power Holds Talks With Guatemalan President Arévalo

Administrator Samantha Power met today with Guatemalan President Bernardo Arévalo to discuss the partnership between USAID and Guatemala, ongoing collaboration as part of the U.S. Strategy to Address the Root Causes of Migration, and U.S. support for the Arévalo Administration's efforts to fight corruption and help democracy deliver for all Guatemalans. Administrator Power and President Arévalo discussed shared development priorities in Guatemala, including mobilizing new investments that address poverty, malnutrition, and access to education. Administrator Power and President Arévalo underscored their shared commitment to building on U.S.-Guatemala efforts to expand temporary labor pathways for Guatemalans that reduce irregular migration, enhance development outcomes, and respect workers' rights. Administrator Power emphasized the strong support of the United States for reforms aimed at holding corrupt actors accountable, creating economic opportunity, and advancing good governance.
