The NSW Rural Fire Service (NSW) is calling on Shoalhaven residents to plan and prepare for the fire season this Get Ready Weekend, Saturday 11 and Sunday 12 September.
NSW RFS Inspector Jonathon Hill said all residents in the Shoalhaven can take simple steps to get themselves and their properties prepared.
Get Ready now, by following these five simple steps to reduce your bush fire risk:
TRIM overhanging trees and shrubs
MOW grass and remove the cuttings. Have a cleared area around your home.
REMOVE material that can burn around your home (e.g. door mats, wood piles, mulch)
CLEAR and remove all the debris and leaves from the gutters surrounding your home
PREPARE a sturdy hose or hoses that will reach all around your home.
COVID-19 restrictions will see local NSW RFS brigades move online to host Get Ready Weekend events, including online meetings and Facebook Live events and social media campaigns.
Further guidance is available on Council's website, via the Get Ready resource page.
