The University of Wyoming soon will begin a search for a vice president for diversity, equity and inclusion, building upon the 2017 hiring of UW's first chief diversity officer and establishment of the Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.
With the support of UW's Board of Trustees, President Ed Seidel says the aim of the nationwide vice president search is to identify a leader to help make the university a more welcoming place for people from all backgrounds, races, ethnicities and experiences.
"A commitment to becoming a more inclusive, diverse university is one of the four pillars that has guided the first year and a half of my administration, and we're ready to take our performance to a higher level," Seidel says. "We look forward to the discussions that will be a part of this search, as well as the opportunities that will develop as we bring a new vice president on board."
Emily Monago, who was named UW's first chief diversity officer in 2017, accepted a position with the Georgia Tech Research Institute in September. She led the establishment of the Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, which will be directed by the new vice president.
"Making our campus a more welcoming, diverse community is crucial to not only prepare our students for a global marketplace, but also to achieve the university's ambitions as an innovation engine for the state's economy," Seidel says. "This vice president search is an important piece of laying the groundwork for improvements."
