The recent lockdown in South Australia has proved to be no barrier to the state's vaccine rollout, with a 15 per cent increase in vaccine doses being delivered throughout South Australia compared to the previous seven days.
South Australians received a total of 79,609 doses of the crucial vaccine during the 7-day lockdown period, well over 10,000 more doses than the previous seven days which saw 69,143 vaccinations administered.
Premier Steven Marshall thanked South Australians for continuing to roll-up their sleeves to receive their vaccine.
"The COVID-19 vaccination program is our doorway out of the pandemic and it is fantastic to see South Australians continue to embrace the vaccine and roll-up their sleeves when it is their turn," said Premier Marshall.
"The health advice was clear during lockdown - those who were booked to be vaccinated should honour their appointment and receive the vaccine - and South Australians well and truly acted on that advice."
Minister for Health and Wellbeing Stephen Wade said this was yet another example of the South Australian public stepping up and responding to the challenges that the pandemic presents.
"There is strong demand for vaccinations, and we remain confident that South Australians will continue to get vaccinated in high numbers over the coming weeks and months," said Minister Wade.
"We are more determined than ever to ensure that every South Australian can get access to the COVID-19 vaccine as soon as possible."
SA Health's Chief Public Health Officer Professor Nicola Spurrier said, "vaccination is the best form of prevention and the COVID-19 vaccine is one of the most important tools we have in our fight against this sneaky virus."
"Now more than ever we need all South Australians to roll up and get vaccinated as soon as they are eligible, no matter where they live.
"Along with masks, physical distancing, hand hygiene and checking in with the QR codes, getting vaccinated is the best way you can protect yourself, your loved ones and our community."
