Vandalism Mars Preparations for Lilydale Festival

Yarra Ranges Shire Council

Yarra Ranges Council is deeply disappointed that ahead of the Lilydale Street Festival this weekend, only three of the eight public toilet cubicles near the pedestrian crossing in Lilydale will be available for use. Extensive damage was recently caused by vandals and has left five cubicles unusable, despite recent repairs costing $16,000 just weeks earlier.

Mayor Cr Richard Higgins said the vandalism was frustrating and costly.

"Unfortunately, criminal damage has been a frequent occurrence at these public toilets, from graffiti to damage to the cubicles. It's incredibly disappointing that a few people choose to destroy essential community assets like these," Cr Higgins said.

Alternative toilets, including unisex and accessible facilities, will be available a short walk away at Melba Park.
