Griffith City Council is seeking information relating to a series of thefts which have the potential to put lives at risk.
Over the last several weeks, a 'STOP' sign has been stolen from the intersection of Scenic Drive and Rifle Range Road, creating a dangerous situation for drivers.
Council's Works Manager Maintenance, Mr Manjit Chugha said the sign has been replaced 8 times over the last few months.
"Each time the sign is replaced, within 24 hours vandals have removed it – oftentimes removing the entire post from the ground," said Mr Chugha.
"Staff replaced the sign again yesterday, taking additional measures to secure the post and using thread locker adhesive and anti-theft nuts, however the sign was removed from the post overnight.
"This creates a dangerous situation for motorists and has the potential to cause a serious accident and is putting lives in danger. This sort of behaviour is unnecessary, costly and extremely dangerous for road users," he added.
Council is calling on anyone who may have witnessed the theft to come forward, with Griffith Mayor Councillor John Dal Broi reminding residents of the reward which is offered.
"Vandalism is a constant issue for our community and these senseless acts are not only expensive, but in this situation has the potential to cause serious harm or injury," said Councillor Dal Broi.
"If you know anything please come forward and tell us or the local Police – (GC-CP-314) which is there to encourage the public to play a role in safeguarding the assets of the community. Under this policy, Council will pay a reward of up to $2,000 to members of the public for information resulting in the conviction against persons damaging Council property – information received will be treated confidentially," he said.
Councillor Dal Broi requested that all residents adopt a Neighbourhood Watch style approach. If any resident should see or hear anything that they believe is suspicious or has information relating to the identity of the culprits, they should report the incident to the local police or to Council on 1300 176 077.
