VCAT appeal withdrawn

Environment Protection Authority Victoria (EPA), Great Southern Waste Technologies (GSWT) and the City of Greater Dandenong (Council) have agreed to a settlement in relation to Council's VCAT appeal against the granting of a Works Approval to GSWT.

Council has withdrawn its VCAT appeal and EPA will exercise its discretion to make minor amendments to assessment conditions of the Works Approval.

The amended conditions will specify agreed methodologies of future studies that were required as a condition of the original works approval. EPA believes these changes will provide further certainty to Council and the community that emissions from the facility have been rigorously assessed and pose a low risk to environment and human health.

The studies are required prior to commencing works on the facility and will be reviewed by both an EPA-appointed auditor and EPA.

EPA issued the Works Approval to GSWT on 20 July 2020 for development of a waste-to-energy facility at 70 Ordish Road, Dandenong South.
