Vibrant events calendar set to ignite community connections

Tweed Shire Council

From festivals to fireworks, the Tweed will be coming together through a series of events from September to March aimed at reconnecting the community.

Council will launch the Together Tweed: Let's Reconnect calendar of events this September as part of the Reconnecting Regional NSW – Community Events Program.

The program is aimed at supporting communities and businesses as they emerge and recover from the 2022 floods and the COVID-19 pandemic.

Together Tweed Let's Reconnect will facilitate 13 community-led events across the Tweed starting in September and continuing through to March 2023.

Each event has been chosen to invigorate and reconnect the community with a range of dynamic experiences – spanning Aboriginal culture and corroboree, to music, food, poetry and theatre – even fireworks!

All Let's Reconnect events will be free to attend with the program funded through a $392,221 grant from the Department of Regional NSW through Tweed Shire Council.

Kicking off the program is the Kinship Festival at Knox Park, Murwillumbah on 24 September, a free event designed and directed by members of the local Aboriginal community for families to connect, share and participate in culture, community and country. Featured will be live music, children's crafts, artisan markets and more.

Up next is the Momentum YOUth Festival at Bogangar on 25 September, followed by a Tiny Taste of Tyalgum, a celebration of local flavours on 1 October.

Council's Unit Coordinator - Community Services Helen Carter said it had been difficult to select only 13 events from the 36 submissions received.

"Thank you to everyone who submitted an expression of interest for the Reconnecting Regional Communities funding. We cannot wait for the program to start," Ms Carter said.

"Council is also pleased to announce all event organisers will attend a specialist access and inclusion workshop prior to their events, meaning events will be open to all in our community."

A full program of events will be published shortly. Please note some venues and dates are yet to be confirmed by event organisers.

The program is proudly funded by the NSW Government and delivered in partnership with Tweed Shire Council – Let's Reconnect.
