Victoria announces the return of Women's Second XI team

Cricket Victoria is proud to announce the return of a Victorian Women's Second XI team for the first time since the 2010/11 season, marking a significant milestone in the continued growth and depth of Victoria's female talent pathway.

The reintroduction of a Second XI program strengthens the bridge between underage pathway programs, Premier Cricket and the Women's National Cricket League (WNCL), providing high-level match opportunities for emerging players and members of the extended Victorian women's squad.

Head Coach Cassie Brock, who played in Victoria's last Second XI team, will lead the side, supported by Assistant Coach Teagan Parker, who is the current U19 Victoria Country Head Coach and U16 National Championships winning coach.

The squad features Victorian contracted players Samara Dulvin and Olivia Henry, alongside former contracted players Tiana Atkinson, Rhiann O'Donnell, Stephanie Townsend, Zoe Griffiths and Jas Nevins. Recently upgraded Victorian players Mia Perrin and Zoe Samuel have also been named, highlighting the depth of talent emerging through Premier Cricket.

Brock said it was a proud moment to see the program return and to be part of the next chapter in Victoria's women's cricket story.

"It's really special to be involved in this from both sides – having played in Victoria's last Second XI team and now coaching the next generation," Brock said.

"This program gives our players the opportunity to test themselves in a high-performance environment and aspire to higher honours, while keeping that strong link between Premier Cricket and state representation."

Cricket Victoria's Head of Female Cricket, Kirby Short, said the return of the Second XI program reflected the state's commitment to providing more competitive opportunities for women's cricket in Victoria.

"It's incredibly exciting to see a Victorian Women's Second XI team back in action," Short said.

"This competition not only gives players the chance to test themselves at a higher level but also strengthens the connection across our entire pathway from Premier Cricket right through to WNCL and beyond."

The side will play South Australia's Second XI in two One Day matches on November 11 and 13 at Park 25 in Adelaide, mirroring the WNCL format.

Cricket Victoria sees re-engaging in this competition as an important step towards more extensive involvement in Second XI fixtures in future seasons, further expanding opportunities for developing Victorian women's players.
