Campaspe Shire Council is proud to announce the official commencement of works for the highly anticipated Victoria Park Multipurpose Facility redevelopment in Echuca. The ground-breaking event, held today at Victoria Park, marks the beginning of a transformative project that will deliver a state-of-the-art community hub for residents and visitors alike.
The $13 million redevelopment is made possible through $11 million in external funding from the Australian Government's Growing Regions Program and a $2 million contribution from Council
The project follows extensive planning, community consultation, and the completion of detailed designs and approvals in 2023. With procurement activities now complete and the contract awarded, construction is officially underway
Campaspe Shire Mayor Daniel Mackrell celebrated the official start to the project stating "Today's ground- breaking is a milestone for our community. Victoria Park has always been a place where people come together, and this redevelopment will ensure it remains at the heart of Echuca for generations to come.
"This project reflects our commitment to investing in local infrastructure that meets the needs of our growing community. We are grateful for the support from the Growing Regions Fund and proud to contribute Council resources to make this vision a reality.
"The new multipurpose facility will provide modern amenities, support local events, and create new opportunities for recreation and connection. I look forward to seeing the positive impact this redevelopment will have on our residents and visitors, Cr Mackrell said.
Senator for Victoria Jana Stewart stated, "On Yorta Yorta Country, we're investing in places that bring people together. Having grown up in the country, I'm proud to be part of the Albanese Labor Government's continued commitment to strengthening regional communities. This new multipurpose facility will deliver accessible amenities, safer infrastructure, and space for major events, boosting Echuca's economy and helping young people stay active and connected."
The event was attended by Member for Murray Plains Peter Walsh, Jessica White - Representative of Regional Development Victoria, Councillors, Council's Executive Leadership Team, staff and project stakeholders and partners. Mayor Daniel Mackrell, and Cr Paul Jarman led the official shovel set, symbolising the start of construction.
