The Victorian Greens have said the Government's decision to scrap the blue bike share scheme will damage Melbourne's reputation as one of the world's most liveable cities.
Member for Prahran, Sam Hibbins, has called on the Government to reverse its decision and to improve the scheme to ensure it's a success.
As stated by transport spokesperson and Member for Prahran, Sam Hibbins:
"A successful bike share scheme is an essential element of any world class city.
"It's a lazy decision by the Government to scrap the Melbourne Bike Share Scheme and it will damage Melbourne's reputation as one of the world's most liveable cities.
"The Melbourne Bike Share scheme was always a half cooked scheme that needed more support to get it working.
"Whilst helmet laws and the free trams zone were obstacles that could be overcome, the low station density and lack of access in the inner suburbs were critical to the schemes poor performance.
"The Greens call on the Government to reverse their decision and renew the scheme by increasing the density of stations and expand into the inner suburbs.
"Every other world class city has a successful bike share scheme, Melbourne should be no different."
