Victorian Police search for missing hiker Niels Becker

Victorian Police are continuing to search the Victorian high country for missing hiker Niels Becker.

The search has resumed at 7am today (Thursday 7 November 2019), with more than 70 people involved, including police on the ground and Air Wing, with assistance from SES, and Bush Search and Rescue.

The 39-year-old Hampton man left Upper Jamieson Hut on 24 October 2019 intending to walk to the Macalister Springs area.

He texted family from the Valejo Ganther Hut on 26 October 2019 saying he intended to head next to Mount Stirling.

It's not clear what route he was planning to take to get there.

He was due back at his vehicle on 29 October 2019; however, had not done so and was reported missing.

Police have been told he is a competent hiker, and was believed to be well equipped for the walk and familiar with the area, however police and his family became concerned when he didn't arrive back on the intended date.

Police have released an image of Niels in the hope that someone may have information on his current whereabouts.

Police would like to speak to anyone who has seen Niels throughout his travels and urge them to contact Mansfield Police Station on (03) 5775 2555.
