Victoria's most compelling designs have been revealed at the 25th Victorian Premier's Design Awards, showcasing the extraordinary products and businesses that continue to deliver cutting edge creations to Victoria and the world.
The awards celebrate innovation, excellence and the broad impact of design - with this year's top prize awarded to Australia's first emission-free, full-sized, high-performance electric motorcycle.
The Savic C-Series electric motorcycle - designed by Dennis Savic and David Hendroff - joins an esteemed and familiar list of design products acknowledged over the awards' quarter-century history.
From the ubiquitous Keep Cup to the International Indigenous Design Charter protocol document and the faithful Kambrook Axis cordless kettle, whose design is used around the world - many of the competition winners continue to have an impact on how we live and work today.
Recognising outstanding design, accolades are bestowed across eight categories - architectural, communication, digital, product, fashion, service, student and design strategy.
As well as taking out award of the year, the Savic C-Series was also named Best in Category for Product Design. Judges praised the ingenuity required to combine the power and handling of a traditional motorcycle with the latest electric battery technologies.
Other category winners include the redevelopment of Broadmeadows Town Hall for Architectural Design, Action Audio, an audio accessibility service for sports broadcasts for Digital Design and the 2020 MPavilion uniform for Fashion Design.
Representing Victoria's talented future designers, this year's winner of the VCE Student Design Award was Mary Ryan from Genazzano FCJ College for her work focused on clothing for children with sensory processing disorder.
An Ankle Foot Orthosis system that grows with young children with Hereditary Spastic Paraplegia, designed by a team from RMIT the Luna Modular AFO was recognised in the Student Design category - they also received a Special Commendation Award for Circular Design and Sustainability.
Victoria's design industry contributes $6 million to the Victorian economy each year and supports almost 200,000 jobs.
The 25th annual Victorian Premier's Design Awards were held as part of Melbourne Design Week 2022. The awards are managed by Good Design Australia on behalf of the Victorian Government. For more information on winning projects, visit premiersdesignawards.vic.gov.au.
