Visa cancellations inquiry to take evidence in Melbourne

The Joint Standing Committee on Migration will hear evidence from a number of organisations and individuals in Melbourne next week as part of its inquiry into review processes associated with visa cancellations made on criminal grounds.

Witnesses include the Refugee Council of Australia, the Law Council of Australia, and the Victorian Victims of Crime Commissioner.

The Committee Chair, Mr Jason Wood MP said it is important that victims of crime are not forgotten in the review process. "The Committee is interested in whether the visa cancellation process and review mechanisms provide sufficient opportunities for victims of crime to be heard", Mr Wood said.

The full program and terms of reference are available on the Committee’s website.
