Vision released after Reservoir shootings

Echo Taskforce detectives have released CCTV vision and are appealing for information following two shootings at a property in Reservoir last week.

In the first incident on Tuesday 4 June a gunman approached a property in Bray Street, armed with what is believed to be a handgun, and fired five shots into the home and two parked cars about 12.50am.

The offender, wearing a distinctive vest and what appears to be a portable radio on his right shoulder, fired shots into the front door and kicked it making demands for someone to come out.

He then left the scene in a vehicle which was pulled up waiting in the street.

Four people who were home asleep at the time of the incident were not injured.

The offender is described as having a medium build, was wearing runners, track pants, hooded windcheater and balaclava and was wearing what appeared to be a military vest with portable radio over his back.

Police have released still images and CCTV of the incident in the hope someone with information will come forward.

The second incident occurred at the same residence four days later on Saturday 8 June when the victim walked out of his home to meet up with someone in the street about 1.30am.

On this occasion the 20-year-old victim approached what is believed to be a black coloured Porsche SUV pulled up in his street before a man jumped out of the car firing shots.

It appears the offender continued firing the gun towards the victim as he ran for cover back towards his home.

The SUV speed off from the scene and was later located burnt out in Mitchell Street Brunswick East about 1.55am.

The Reservoir man was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

State Anti-Gangs Division Detective Superintendent Peter Brigham said it is always a concern to police when firearms are used in this manner.

"We understand that people in the community feel concerned following reports of shootings played out in public," D/Superintendent Brigham said.

"I want to reassure the community that police and our division are working hard to investigate this incident and hold those responsible to account.

"This footage is confronting and in releasing it we're hoping that someone will come forward with information.

"The people involved in this have friends, they have relatives, someone knows who is responsible and I'm urging those people to come forward - we don't want anyone else to get hurt.

"As part of the investigation we are looking to possible links with outlaw motorcycle gangs and those with ties to Middle Eastern organised crime.

"I want to also reiterate that this appears very much a targeted attack and at this stage there is no evidence to suggest the shootings are linked to any other incidents we're aware of."

The investigation remains ongoing and anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential crime report at www.crimestoppers.com.au.
