Assistant Minister for Climate Change and Energy Josh Wilson will travel to Papua New Guinea today to represent Australia at the 6th Pacific Regional Energy and Transport Ministers Meeting (PRETMM).
Assistant Minister Wilson will participate in ministerial discussions on regional fuel security, the Pacific energy transition, and Australia's support for the Pacific-led initiatives to strengthen energy security and resilience.
Hosted by the Government of Papua New Guinea and the Pacific Community (SPC), PRETMM brings together energy and transport ministers from across the Pacific, alongside development partners, to advance the region's shared priorities.
In the lead up to pre-COP in Fiji and COP31, PRETMM is a key opportunity for Australia to advance support for the region's renewable energy transition.
While in Port Moresby, Assistant Minister Wilson will hold bilateral discussions with Pacific counterparts on shared energy priorities and reflect on progress under the broader suite of Australia's climate, energy and development partnerships in the region.
These include the Australia-Pacific Partnership for Energy Transition, and the Australian Infrastructure Financing Facility for the Pacific.
