Visitors Have Personal Tour Guide In Their Pocket

Visitors to Corangamite have personal tour guide in their pocket

Visitors to Camperdown now have their own personal tour guide in their pocket with more guides across the Corangamite Shire to be released soon.

Council has worked with the Camperdown & District Historical Society and ACE radio to create 'Echoes of History': six audio tours with stories about key sites in Camperdown.

Locations include:

  • Camperdown Clock Tower
  • Theatre Royal
  • Finlay Avenue
  • Soldiers Memorial
  • Camperdown Courthouse
  • Camperdown Post and Telegraph Office

Camperdown & District Historical Society President, Lyle Tune said: "Camperdown & District Historical Society is proud to have worked with Corangamite Shire on this innovative project.

"Having simple QR code links to spoken descriptions of our Heritage sites is a very exciting way of promoting them.

"Congratulations to Corangamite Shire for this important initiative."

Mayor Kate Makin said 'Echoes of History' was a fun way to bring local heritage to life.

"QR codes have been put up at local landmarks for users to scan and hear the stories, that make each site unique.

"You can hear the history and legends unfold right where they happened, making every stop more than just a place, but an experience.

"It gives visitors another reason to stop and explore the town.

"Locals might also learn something they didn't know about their own backyard.

"Stay tuned with Timboon soon to have their stories created."

The stories are available at https://omny.fm/shows/corangamite-shire-audio-tour-guide and will be promoted through relevant tourism websites.
