Volunteer Spotlight - Emma Halahifi - East Gippsland

This National Volunteer Week, we're celebrating the people who help keep our small communities connected, active and thriving.

Today, we recognise Emma Halafihi a dedicated local volunteer who gives their time across multiple community groups, including the Swifts Creek Football Netball Club, Tambo Valley Bowls Club, Ensay Recreation Reserve and Ensay Angling Club but also works for Council in her role as the Place Facilitator - North.

Over the years, Emma has taken on a range of roles including Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer and committee member - contributing countless hours to supporting local sport, recreation and community connection.

For Emma, volunteering is about helping create opportunities for people of all ages to come together, particularly young people growing up in small rural communities.

"Having four sons myself, it's important to me that I work hard to provide them and all community members with spaces, events and opportunities to engage in activities that are supportive and inclusive for all.

Further instilling in them the life skills that will shape the way become future effective contributors to their local communities."

National Volunteer Week runs from 18-24 May and is a chance to celebrate the volunteers who make a difference across East Gippsland every day.

"Volunteers are what keep these groups going and it's great to see volunteers being recognised for their invaluable work, thank you!" Emma said.
