Von Der Leyen Meets Chinese Premier Li Qiang

European Commission

It is good to see you again. Thank you for your warm hospitality in Beijing in July. We are two of the world's largest economic powers – a very consequential relationship for our people, businesses and the entire world. We agree that this relationship must be built on trust, mutual understanding and constant dialogue.

Therefore, I am glad that we have the chance to meet here today. The meeting shows that we are both committed to this. This is good. Today, we will discuss the follow up on our Summit commitments.

On trade, it was a very productive meeting. Today, we will discuss setting up a working structure to deliver on the outcome of the Summit and to already prepare for next year's summit. We will certainly discuss Russia's war against Ukraine and the possibility of China to use its significant influence to bring Russia to the negotiating table. And as you, rightly so, said on climate: The world is looking at us. Let us strengthen our cooperation and join forces to make COP30 a success.
