Vote 1 to give girls A Place To Grow in Riverstone

Girl Guides have a long history of helping others in their communities and speaking out on issues for those whose voice may not be heard. Now it's the Riverstone Local Government Area community's chance to return the favour.

Girl Guides NSW & ACT have a project entry in the NSW Government's My Community Projects Scheme. The My Community Project funds projects in each NSW electorate to help improve the wellbeing of people and communities. Successful projects will be determined through a public vote and the projects that receive the most support will receive funding.

This Girl Guides project is a unique, easily accessible, schools-based activities program that supports valuable self-confidence, leadership, relationships, social inclusion, community contribution, health and the outdoors, creativity and most of all, belonging for our girls. This program is designed to evolve into regular, safe and supportive Girl Guide meeting groups out in the Riverstone LGA community for now and into the future. A place for these girls to continue to grow.

Girl Guides, for a century, have been creating safe and supportive places for 5–18 year old girls and adult volunteers in which to belong and grow. This schools program will provide an easy way to participate in areas where no established Guide Groups exist.

If successful in the My Community Projects voting, local Girl Guide representative Rose-Marie Salem said "This project will allow us to deliver the Girl Guide program to girls who otherwise may not have the chance to benefit.

"And it's not just the girls that benefit, Rose elaborated, "when girls feel connected and confident, and proud of their own contribution, communities become stronger".

A funded Community Development Project Officer together with the Girl Guides Volunteer network will promote, deliver and evaluate the program into local schools through Term 3 and 4 of 2019 and Term 1 and 2 of 2020. Presentations in schools to teachers, parents and students will start the process that will be followed by in-school and after school activities each term delivered by a combination of trained and resourced teachers and volunteers.

With your help the Riverstone LGA Community can make this happen. The projects with the most votes get the funding. Voting closes 15 August
