Voting now open for 2019 City of Adelaide Prize

Run by the SA Chapter of the Australian Institute of Architects and sponsored by the City of Adelaide, the People's Choice award is a category in the prestigious South Australian Architecture Awards with the winner to be announced on 29 June.

The awards include projects such as public art, landscape works, and temporary contributions to public space that actively engage the community and enhance the city.

The winner of the 2018 People's Choice category as voted by the South Australian public was The Darling Building by Williams Burton Leopardi.

The winner of the 2018 City of Adelaide Prize was awarded to 84 Halifax Street by Oxigen, a creative and light-filled building featuring a pizza bar on the ground floor (Etica Pizza al Taglio) and a separate office space and courtyard upstairs.

The jury also awarded three commendations. One went to The Darling Building by Williams Burton Leopardi for creating a well-considered workplace that blends the original fabric with a contemporary twist.

The refurbishment of Adelaide Town Hall's Queen Adelaide Room by Swanbury Penglase was recognised for breathing new life into one of Adelaide's premier reception spaces.

The third commendation went to Urban Beach by Renewal SA acting on behalf of the Riverbank Authority for being an innovative concept that created a playful and engaging public space in an existing city Park Land setting.

Lord Mayor of Adelaide Sandy Verschoor said that the City of Adelaide has a long association with the Prize, which attracts innovative projects that demonstrate exceptional urban design.

"Each year I am impressed by the calibre of design and construction in Adelaide and the huge amount of innovation and creativity on offer in our city," the Lord Mayor said.

"The City of Adelaide Prize highlights the role of design in the creation of successful public spaces that enliven our city while also promoting good design to the broader community.
