Walk to support mental health awareness on our Peninsula

Our community is again being invited to participate in the annual World Suicide Prevention Day event, hosted by the local suicide prevention network Chasing Change on Friday 10 September.

This important event is a platform to raise mental health awareness as well as acknowledge those we have lost to suicide in our community.

This year's global theme for World Suicide Prevention day is 'Creating Hope Through Action'. The theme reminds us there is an alternative to suicide, and our actions, no matter how big or small, may provide hope to those who are struggling.

Preventing suicide is often possible and our community is a key player in its prevention. Through action, our community can make a difference to someone in their darkest moments - as a member of society, as a child, as a parent, as a friend, as a colleague or as a neighbour. We can all play a role in supporting those experiencing a suicidal crisis or those bereaved by suicide.

This year, Chasing Change will be facilitating a COVID-19 safe, alternative event encouraging our community to walk around Mornington Park in their own time and tie a ribbon on the chain link fence along the Esplanade. Each ribbon is a mark of the commitment to suicide prevention and recognition of those who have been lost to suicide.

Everyone who registers for the event will receive a free pack including information on local support services, a coffee voucher, Chasing Change merchandise and a ribbon to tie.
