Wanding arrests at Gold Coast

Police have seized seven weapons through their continued use of metal detection wands within the Gold Coast District's Safe Night Precincts to combat knife crime and ensure the safety of school-leavers during their end of year celebrations.

Since 6:00am on Friday November 18, officers have wanded 918 people within the Surfers Paradise and Broadbeach precincts.

Of those, 32 people were arrested on 42 charges. (18 drug offences, 7 weapons offences, 7 bail offences and 10 other offences).

Police have released footage in relation to:

  • The arrest of a 13-year-old Riverview boy at the Esplanade, Surfers Paradise, around 8pm on November 21. Police will allege he was located with a knife concealed in his sleeve. The boy was charged with one count each of possessing a knife in a public place and one count of attempted armed robbery. He is scheduled to appear at the Southport Children's Court at a later date.   • The arrest of a 39-year-old Upper Coomera man at Ferny Avenue, Surfers Paradise, around 3pm on November 22. Police will allege he was located with a box-cutter. The man was charged with one count of possessing a knife in a public place and is scheduled to appear at the Southport Magistrates Court on December 14. (QP2202012180 refers)
  • The arrest of a 16-year-old Wurtulla boy at the Esplanade, Surfers Paradise, around 5pm on November 22. Police will allege he was located with knife in his bag. He was dealt with under provisions of the Youth Justice Act. (QP2202012788 refers)
