Wanted man arrested, firearms and drugs seized, NSW

Police have arrested a wanted man and seized firearms, drugs and other weapons after a car stop in Sydney’s south-west yesterday, NSW Police say.

Officers from Green Valley Local Area Command were patrolling in Austral just after 1pm today, when they observed a Holden Commodore which had been identified as unregistered by automatic numberplate recognition (ANPR).

Police stopped the car on Edmondson Avenue with checks revealing the driver had two outstanding warrants for his arrest.

He was placed under arrest and police searched the vehicle, allegedly locating a loaded sawn-off double-barrel shotgun, a target pistol, various ammunition, drugs including 20 ecstasy tablets (MDMA), a quantity of ‘ice’ (methylamphetamine) and cannabis, and a number of swords and knives.

The 22-year-old man was taken to Green Valley Police Station where he was charged with the two outstanding warrants and 15 offences:

• Possess loaded firearm public place

• Possess unauthorised pistol

• Not keep firearm safely – not prohibited firearm/pistol

• Not keep firearm safely – pistol

• Possess unregistered firearm – not prohibited firearm/pistol

• Possess unregistered firearm – pistol

• Possess a barrel for a firearm unless authorised by licence

• Possess ammunition without holding licence/permit/authority

• Supply prohibited drug (two counts)

• Possess prohibited drug

• Have custody of an offensive implement in a public place

• Custody of knife in public place

• Use unregistered registrable Class A motor vehicle on road, and,

• Drive uninsured vehicle.

He was refused bail to appear at Liverpool Local Court tomorrow.
