Wanted man arrested; officer injured - Barrier

A man wanted on a number of outstanding warrants for domestic violence and property related offences has been charged in the state's far west.

About 5pm yesterday (Tuesday 14 December 2021), officers attached to Western Region Enforcement Squad and High Risk Domestic Violence Offender Team, attended a home on Comstock Street, Broken Hill, to speak with a man.

Officers observed a man allegedly fleeing the house and jumping the rear fence into several yards before they lost sight of him.

A short time later, officers stopped a black Holden Commodore in Clarke Street, where the man was sighted before he exited the vehicle and ran from the location.

Police commenced a foot pursuit through several backyards, before locating the man hiding in a room inside a home on Clarke Street.

A struggle ensued and officers successfully deployed OC spray.

The 23-year-old was arrested and taken to Broken Hill Police Station where he was charged with the outstanding warrants for domestic violence and property related offences and resist officer in execution of duty.

He was refused bail to appear at Broken Hill Local Court today (Wednesday 15 December 2021).

During the foot pursuit, a male senior constable sustained dog bites to his arm. He was taken to Broken Hill Hospital for treatment of his injuries and released a short time later.
