Wanted QLD man arrested after foot pursuit - Tweed/Byron

A man wanted on an outstanding warrant by Queensland Police Service will appear in court today after being arrested in NSW.

Officers from Tweed/Byron Police District were notified of a man wanted by Queensland Police Service's Taskforce Maxima, for alleged offences relating to extortion, robbery and a serious assault that occurred at Broadbeach Waters earlier this month.

About 7.15pm yesterday (Wednesday 9 September 2020), police were patrolling Casuarina Way, Kingscliff, when they noticed a vehicle parked in Harpullia Court. As officers approached the vehicle, a man who was standing nearby ran away.

Police pursued the man on foot as he jumped fences, ran across rooftops and into backyards of homes in the Kingscliff area. They lost sight of him as he ran into bushland.

A perimeter was established and with assistance from Queensland Polair, a search of the area commenced.

About 8.15pm, officers arrested the 28-year-old man on Lirriope Street, Casuarina.

He was taken to Tweed Heads Police Station where he was charged with the outstanding arrest warrant.

The man was refused bail to appear before Tweed Heads Local Court today (Thursday 10 September 2020), where it is expected Queensland Police will apply for the man's extradition.
