Watsonia Road works paves way for Ring Road upgrades

Vic Department of Transport

Two weekends of works on Watsonia Road have been successfully completed. Crews worked more than 2400 hours in total to move around 160m of gas pipes.

These crucial works pave the way for some great outcomes for the community, including:

  • a new tree-lined boulevard along Greensborough Road, that will act as a green gateway to Watsonia and 50 MCGs of new parklands and open space
  • the completion of the M80 Ring Road, and
  • North East Link's longer 6.5km tunnels to Watsonia – creating safer and faster trips.

During the works that closed a section of the road, local businesses remained open with 6 lucky shoppers winning $100 Watsonia Shops Gift Cards as part of our 'shop local and win' competition.

The Watsonia Road work follows on from the key works that have been underway along Greensborough Road. Since July 2020, work crews have moved 4.5km of gas and power lines in the area.

We'd like to thank the community, particularly the businesses along Watsonia Road, for all their patience during the works.
