Waverley serious assault victim identified, TAS

Police have confirmed the identity of the victim involved in the serious assault at Waverley in the early hours of this morning has been established, Tasmania Police say.

He is a 48 year old man from Prospect.  No further information about the man’s identity will be provided at this stage.

The 1984 yellow single cab Mazda utility recovered from the lake in Waverley earlier today has been identified as belonging to the victim.

Police are seeking information about the vehicle’s movements between 10pm on Tuesday 9 January and 12.30am on Wednesday 10 January.

If anyone observed this vehicle and any occupants of it between those times, they are asked to contact Tasmania Police.

"Police continue to seek assistance from any members of the public who may have seen this utility last evening between 10pm until 12.30am this morning. In particular, whether the utility may have been seen in the suburbs of Prospect, West Launceston, Invermay and Waverley," Detective Inspector Philippa Burk said.

"Police encourage members of the public to continue to provide them with any information to assist this investigation. Police would again thank and commend the Launceston public for their assistance with information so far."
