Last September, Mornington Peninsula came out on top in the friendly inter-council BioBlitz competition. Do we have what it takes to make our mark on a global scale? Enter the City Nature Challenge, a four-day event where our community is invited to record sightings of plants and wildlife.
This is a global competition, and Mornington Peninsula Shire is participating as part of Greater Melbourne. With our unique flora and fauna there will be plenty of opportunities to snap pictures and record insects, plants and of course, our iconic Australian wildlife. From Kookaburras to Christmas Beetles, Fairy-wrens to Fungi-every observation counts.
Acting Mayor Councillor Paul Pingiaro said "Anyone can join, you don't need to know a lot about nature to participate. All you need is the iNaturalist app, and the enthusiasm to capture what you see and share with others in your community and indeed, around the world. Joining the challenge is a great way to learn about local plants and animals - and you'll be contributing to local conservation and citizen science, which is a bonus."
