Weapons and stolen goods seized; man charged after attempting to flee - Villawood

A man will face court today after allegedly being found with electronic stun devices, knives and suspected stolen goods before attempting to run away from police in Sydney's west yesterday.

About 1.30am (Tuesday 21 April 2020), officers from Bankstown Police Area Command were patrolling Villawood when they stopped a Toyota Landcruiser on Alcoomie Street and spoke with the four occupants.

During a search of the car, officers allegedly found a backpack containing two electronic stun devices, a laser pointer, a large quantity of jewellery, identity and bank cards, and cash.

While being searched, the front seat passenger, a 34-year-old man, attempted to run away and was arrested after a short foot pursuit.

He was taken to hospital under police guard after complaining of shortness of breath before being conveyed to Bankstown Police Station.

The man has been charged with four counts of possess or use a prohibited weapon without a permit, deal with proceeds of crime, goods in personal custody suspected to be stolen, have in custody a laser pointer in public place, two counts of custody of knife in a public place, and resist or hinder police in execution of duty.

He was refused bail and is due to appear in Campbelltown Local Court today (Wednesday 22 April 2020).

Inquiries continue.
