Weapons offences in Charters Towers, QLD

A 21-year-old man has been charged following a series of alleged incidents involving a firearm in Charters Towers yesterday, Queensland Police say.

It is alleged around 1pm a man attended a residential address on Cambridge Street where he discharged a firearm towards a 50-year-old man standing outside the house.

Police established a cordon outside a rural property at Breddan where the man allegedly scaled the roof of a residence whilst armed with a firearm.

Around 6.30pm, it will be alleged the man discharged a firearm in the general direction of responding police.

The man was taken into police custody without further incident just before 9pm.

No one was injured during the incidents.

A 21-year-old Breddan man has been charged with eight offences including two counts of discharging a weapon in a public place and one count each of acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm, carrying a loaded weapon in a public place, dangerous conduct with a weapon and driving whilst unlicensed, uninsured and unregistered.

He is due to appear in the Townsville Magistrates Court today.
