Well-known local artists Lisa Taliano and Di Tarr invite the public to experience their current exhibition at ArtSpace at Griffith Regional Theatre.
Titled Art for Art's Sake - Money for God's Sake, this exhibition adopts a quirky approach to the arts of weaving, painting and readymade sculpture with an immersive quality that is at once familiar and strange.
Visitors can expect to see paintings, multi-media works, and weavings that have an installation like quality. Although each artwork can be enjoyed individually, the artworks are linked conceptually and can be experienced through the lens of the collaboration and visual conversation between the two artists.
Regional Art Gallery Curator, Ray Wholohan said: "Both Lisa and Di are highly regarded local artists and have exhibited widely in the community in various galleries and public spaces."
"In this exhibition both artists wanted to expand their practice in the form of a collaboration that focused on the concept 'art for art's sake' which translated into experimenting and exploring creative outcomes just for the joy of creating. The exhibition also plays with more traditional craft forms and reinterprets them into contemporary arts practice," Mr Wholohan said.
The artists' statement from Ms Taliano and Ms Tarr explained the concept behind the exhibition: "A good collaboration produces universal thinking. The saying "two heads are better than one" allows an input of new and challenging ideas, and letting go of how we think things should be, resulting in new work with a life of its own."
This exhibition marks a bold experiment for two established artists letting go of their individual practice to enter into a partnership that will take them into unchartered territory.
