Wentworth Shire recognises volunteers for National Volunteers Week

Wentworth Shire

Wentworth Shire Council Mayor Susan Nichols has praised the work of volunteers in the community.

National Volunteers Week runs from 17-23 May and is Australia's largest annual celebration of volunteers.

With many volunteer organisations contributing so much to the Wentworth Shire community in a range of fields it is a pertinent time to recognise the sterling work these people put in.

"Volunteers are the lifeblood of any community, not just in the Wentworth Shire but all around Australia," Cr Nichols said.

"Without these people, our communities would not function.

"They provide much needed services which especially in the country makes their contribution to the fabric of our towns so vital."

The theme for National Volunteers Week 2021 is Recognise. Reconnect. Reimagine. which acknowledges it is time to:

• RECOGNISE, celebrate and thank volunteers for the vital role they play in our lives.

• RECONNECT to what is important by giving our time to help others and ourselves.

• REIMAGINE how we better support volunteers and communities they help.
