We're about to start work on delivering the next section of the Scotchmans Creek Trail to Djerring Trail Cycling Connection in Oakleigh.
In 2025 we opened the first two stages of the project:
- Atkinson Street, between Dandenong Road and Atherton Road.
- Hanover Street, between Atherton Road and Djerring Trail.
We're now about to start connecting these two sections across the intersection of Atkinson Street, Hanover Street and Atherton Road.
As well as connecting the two-way cycleway across the intersection, we'll be upgrading the signals at the intersection, to improve safety for vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists. We'll be building new traffic islands to protect the cycleway, reconstructing the roadway and footpaths and installing pavement markings and landscaping.
Construction work will start on 23 October 2026 and be completed by the end of November 2026.
We'll be conducting both day and night works. Day works will be carried out Mondays to Fridays (7am to 4pm) while night works will be conducted from Sunday to Thursday (9pm-6am).
There will be no night works on Friday or Saturday nights.
What might impact you:
- There will be lane closures on Atherton Road and Atkinson Street.
- Temporary full road closures may be required at times, depending on specific construction activities.
- There will be temporary changes to accessing the Council car park on Hanover Street and seven (7) car parks on the north side of the car park will be used as a site compound.
- Traffic management will be in place to safely guide pedestrians, cyclists and motor vehicles past work areas.
