Wessex Flood Committee Welcomes New Members

The Environment Agency is looking for new members to join the Wessex Regional Flood and Coastal Committee (RFCC).

The committee, which covers Somerset, Dorset, Wiltshire, Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole, Bristol, and parts of Gloucestershire and Hampshire, is recruiting three new independent members (x1 conservation member and x2 general independent members) to help manage flood and coastal erosion risk.

Being an RFCC member is an exciting and rewarding opportunity to help communities throughout Wessex in need of flood and coastal erosion solutions. The successful applicants will play a crucial role in deciding local priorities, considering climate change impacts, approving programmes of work and supporting the work of the Environment Agency and local flood authorities.

Applicants must have an interest in and willingness to learn about flood and coastal erosion risk management and a desire to make a real difference to people's lives and to the environment we live in. Technical expertise or specific qualifications are not required to be a member.

RFCC members are appointed as impartial individuals and not as representatives of any organisation.

The Committee meets four times a year at locations within the Wessex area, although successful candidates may also be asked to attend additional meetings. These are voluntary positions but reasonable expenses, including travel, can be claimed.

Applications close on Sunday 26 November 2023.

Full information, including how to apply, can be found on the Environment Agency Careers website.
