Thousands of revellers gathered in Anzac Park to celebrate the much-anticipated West Ryde Easter Celebrations on 12 April, hosted by City of Ryde and the West Ryde Easter Celebrations Sub-Committee.
The event drew families from all corners of the community who came to enjoy a packed day of festive fun under bright autumn skies.
Attendees were treated to a vibrant line-up of community performances, a petting zoo full of adorable animals, exhilarating amusement rides, and an array of food trucks serving up sweet and savoury delights. Children were especially thrilled by a surprise visit from the Easter Bunny, who delighted young and old alike with smiles, waves and photo opportunities.
City of Ryde Mayor Trenton Brown said it was inspiring to see the community come together to share in the Easter spirit.
"The West Ryde Easter Celebrations have become a cornerstone of our event calendar," Mayor Brown said. "It's an event that truly captures the essence of what community is all about – families spending time together, friends reconnecting, and people from all walks of life sharing in a joyful and inclusive experience."
Among the many highlights of the day were three exciting competitions that showcased the creativity and talent of local children and performers.
- The Easter Bonnet Competition saw dozens of children aged 3 to 12 proudly display their handmade creations before a panel of judges. Sponsored by the West Ryde Chamber of Commerce, the competition was judged on creativity, uniqueness, and the use of recyclable materials.
- Artistic flair was on full display in the Colouring-in Competition, sponsored by My First Gym, with children between the ages of 3 and 12 showing off their colouring skills. Entries were judged across two age categories, with judges looking for creativity and originality.
- The crowd was treated to a range of vocal performances during the Singing Competition, sponsored by Ryde-Eastwood Leagues Club. Talented contestants took to the stage from, with winners selected in two age categories.
Mayor Brown praised the incredible talent and enthusiasm shown by all participants and encouraged families to keep getting involved in community events like this one.
Mayor Brown applauded the hard work of event organisers and volunteers who helped deliver another successful celebration, and thanked local performers, stallholders and community groups for their participation.
