Westbury residents deceived again

Tasmanian Labor
  • Peter Gutwein and Elise Archer fail Westbury community
  • Delays and mismanagement hurting local people
  • The Liberal Government's plans to build a maximum security prison in the historic village of Westbury have been plunged further into chaos today.

Elise Archer promised the people of the Meander Valley that the Interim Social Economic Report would be available by the end of February but confirmed on ABC radio this morning that the report would be delayed until April.

Labor Member for Lyons Jen Butler said this was another example of the mismanagement of this project by the Liberals.

"We have heard the Westbury community loud and clear - they do not want a maximum security prison built in their backyard," Ms Butler said.

"The consultation being undertaken by the Government is overdue, insufficient and now we know it's delayed.

"It is time for the Government to admit they have botched this process and go back to the drawing board.

"Labor supports the development of a northern prison but we are seriously concerned that the Government have shown a complete inability to manage even the initial stages of this important project."
