Western Downs Regional Council has released its Annual Report for the 2024/25 financial year, reflecting a focus on strong community outcomes, major infrastructure delivery, and advocacy for the region.
The report was adopted at the November Ordinary Meeting in Tara, reporting Council's successes, opportunities, and challenges against its Corporate Plan 2021-2026 and Strategic Plan.
Western Downs Regional Council Mayor Andrew Smith said the Annual Report reflected a year of remarkable progress, innovation, and community spirit across the region.
"The Western Downs continues to prove its place as a regional powerhouse, going from strength to strength," Mayor Smith said.
"Our success in the previous financial year is no accident; it is the result of vision, hard work, and a shared commitment to building a region that is feeding, clothing, and powering the nation.
"The Annual Report provides transparency around Council decision-making, effective budget management, and the delivery of impactful projects that benefit the entire region.
"It is evidence of the hard work we've done to ensure our resources are aligned with community needs and long-term aspirations."
Mayor Smith said highlights included retaining a strong financial position, significant improvements to the region's road and water networks, and investment in great liveability projects.
"Guided by our Corporate Plan, we've remained focused on our strategic priorities of strong, diverse economy, active, vibrant community, quality lifestyle and sustainable organisation to advance the long-term wellbeing of the region," he said.
"Council continued to operate with financial discipline, retaining our position as one of the few debt-free local governments in Queensland.
"We also continued strong, persistent advocacy to the State and Federal Governments to secure support the region's most pressing needs - water security, digital connectivity, and a safe and well-maintained road network. I'd like to encourage everyone to head to Council's website and take a look at the new Annual Report for themselves."
