A saturated catchment with further rain on the way has prompted the Surf Coast Shire Council to open the mouth of the Anglesea River on 15 July 2021 to prevent localised flooding in the area.
Weather forecasts and estuary levels are regularly monitored. Planning for an estuary opening is undertaken in collaboration with the Corangamite Catchment Management Authority, with decisions supported by scientific risk assessment and modelling taking into consideration the relative economic, social and environmental impacts.
Further detailed information about the River and its catchment can be found in the Anglesea River Environmental Flows study and its Summary brochure (Corangamite CMA Knowledge Base (ccmaknowledgebase.vic.gov.au).
