The Green Party celebrates te Koroneihana Tuatahi o Te Arikinui Kuini Nga wai hono i te po, reaffirming our shared commitment to kotahitanga, our environment, and Māoritanga.
"Whakanuia te Arikinui Kuini Ngawai hono i te po!," says Green Party co-leader Marama Davidson.
"Kuini Nga wai hono i te po has spoken eloquently and reassuringly a year on from losing our beloved Kiingi Tuuheitia, her beloved father. We acknowledge the enormous contribution Kiingi Tuuheitia made to Aotearoa, particularly his efforts to unify our people - all people.
"Advocating for te reo Māori, our taiao, learning our histories, and our Māoritanga, Kuini Ngawai hono i te po has asked us to look to our past to inform our future.
"Mana motuhaketia te taiao: our Kuini has asked us to work towards a self-determining environment. Through our long-standing Green Party priority of protecting our taiao for generations to come, we will work with the Kiingitanga to achieve this.
"Māori-Crown relations have been eroded under this Government. The Kiingitanga was established in 1858 to retain Māori land, the lives of our people, and mana Māori motuhake - Kuini Ngawai hono i te po is the perfect representative to take us forward in this fight.
"Kuini Ngawai hono i te po has asked us to walk a new path. We look forward to walking this path together" says Marama Davidson.
