What Did Pothole Premier Actually Do? 14 July 2025

Tas Labor

After the storms of September last year, Premier Rockliff, for a short time the Infrastructure Minister again, conducted a press conference where he pretended to patch up some of his 3,000 potholes.

It was comical.

He said he would meet with civil contractors to get to the bottom of what was going wrong and how to fix it.

Jeremy Rockliff should confirm today that he met with contractors once and changed nothing. It was just a photo shoot after all. He was never actually interested in fixing the roads.

That's why there are more dangerous potholes on the Bass Highway today. Deloraine Tilt Trucks confirmed they supported seven vehicles just yesterday with broken rims and blown tyres.

A couple of months ago the business had to support 21 vehicles after they hit potholes on the road. They said the potholes are in the same spots every time.

On the other hand, Labor has taken the pothole issue seriously. Dean Winter and I have met with contractors on multiple occasions and followed up with a plan to build Tasmanian roads for Tasmanian conditions.

We have outlined our plan to fix the roads, and build them properly the first time.

It's been endorsed by the Civil Contractors Federation and we are ready to sort this mess out.
